Conversation Heart Sugar Cookies

Conversation Heart Sugar Cookies

Not only are these Conversation Heart Sugar Cookies super cute, but they’re special to me because I’ve loved the traditional Necco Sweethearts since I was a kid. It just doesn’t feel like Valentine’s Day without them. When they changed the formula awhile ago, I was really disappointed because the flavors just weren’t the same.

When they had their 150th Anniversary and brought back the original recipe, I was so excited!! I pretty much bought every bag I could find. It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without conversation hearts so I made these really cute cookies to celebrate the holiday. I hope you enjoy!

Use a #2 tip to outline and fill the cookies with medium consistency icing.  Use a toothpick to encourage the icing to move to the outline and to pop any large bubbles.  Gently shake the cookie to ensure the royal icing levels out (i.e., “heals”).

Let the conversation heart sugar cookies sit and crust for at least 1 hour.

Use a #1 tip to write Valentine’s Day messages on the cookie in red royal icing.  Examples of messages include:

  • I Love You
  • Kiss Me
  • I <3 You
  • XOXO
  • Forever
  • Be Mine
  • True Love

Let the icing dry uncovered for 6-8 hours (or overnight).  They are now ready to be given as a sweet message to your valentine.
