Get ready for a fun time of cake decorating! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn step-by-step how to decorate a festive Christmas Tree Cake that is as beautiful as it is delicious. No experience is needed. Just bring your creativity and make a cake that will impress your family and friends!

Class Location:
This is a virtual/online event ONLY.  The class will be held via Zoom, and a class link will be sent to the email provided below.

Class Types:

  • “Live Class Only” – Receive access to a PDF of the course workbook at least one week prior to the event (to the email address provided below).  Simply make the recipes included in the workbook before the start of the class and decorate along!
  • “Live Class + Decorating Kit + Rented Equipment” – In this option, there is no need to make any recipes or buy extra tools.  We make everything for you AND supply all of the decorating equipment! Prior to the class, stop by the bakery to pick up the necessary class materials.  Then, join us during the class to decorate.  Within one week after the class is done, simply return the rented equipment to the bakery.
  • “Live Class + Decorating Kit + Equipment to Own” – In this option, there is no need to make any recipes.  We make everything for you AND supply all of the decorating equipment for you to use and keep for future cake decorating!  Prior to the class, stop by the bakery and pick up the necessary class materials.  Then, join us during the class to decorate.
  • “Live Class + Decorating Kit” – There is no need to make any recipes.  We make everything for you.  However, this option assumes you either already have access to cake decorating equipment, or you will purchasing your own.  Prior to the class, stop by the bakery and pick up the class materials (e.g., cake, frosting, piping tips/bag, and workbook).  Then, join us during the class to decorate.

  • Step-by-step instruction designed for beginners (but fun for all levels!)
  • Tips and tricks to make cake decorating easier
  • How to stack and crumb coat a cake
  • How to achieve a smooth frosting finish
  • Preparing and filling a piping bag
  • Using various piping tips to create swirls, rosettes, and dots

  • One 6″ cake (separated in layers)

More Information:

  • The cake and frosting flavor is vanilla (both in the course workbook and in the cupcakes provided in the decorating kit).
  • “Live Class Only” tickets are refundable until the course workbook has been sent.  After the PDF has been sent, the tickets are final sale and non-refundable.
  • “Live Class + Decorating Kit” (also Rented Equipment and Equipment to Own) tickets are refundable up to one week prior to the event.  At that time, the tickets are final sale and non-refundable.
  • If you are unable to attend the live class (or if you would like to re-watch the class content at a later time), there is a recorded class option that will be offered.
  • Allergens & dietary restrictions: This class includes wheat, dairy, and eggs.  We do offer a gluten-free option.  Please note that foods are prepared in a kitchen that regularly uses most major allergens.

The rented equipment will need to be returned to the bakery within one week of the class. Note: You will be charged a deposit that will be returned to you after the rented equipment is returned without damage.

All class materials (including those in the decorating kit AND additional equipment) are the property of the customer and DO NOT need to be returned to the bakery.

I am not providing a normal spatula with any class option since the kit includes plastic spoons for stirring/scooping the frosting. If you would prefer to use a spatula, I would suggest having 3 (one for each color). You can also just clean the spatula between each color.

If you choose the “Live Class Only” option, you will need to supply all class materials yourself. A material list will be included in the course workbook PDF.

If you choose the “Live Class + Decorating Kit” option, you will need to supply your own turntable, offset spatula, and cake scraper.

If you choose the “Live Class + Decorating Kit + Rented Equipment/Equipment to Own” options, you will not need to supply any of your own materials.

Either the “Live Class Only” (if you would like to make your own cake/frosting) OR the “Live Class + Decorating Kit” (if you would like the recipes to be made for you so you can just focus on the decorating).

The decorating kit and additional equipment (if you chose the “rented equipment/equipment to own” options) can be picked up at Windy City Baker (i.e., my home bakery). The address is 5482 S Ridgewood Ct in the neighborhood of Hyde Park in Chicago. Type “Windy City Baker” into your GPS to ensure the GPS takes you to the front of my building.

We do not provide shipping or delivery for the decorating kit/equipment. The customer must pick up the kit/equipment in person before the class.

Return the undamaged rented equipment (i.e., turntable, offset spatula, and cake scraper) to Windy City Baker within one week of the end of the class. Once it is received, the deposit will be returned to the credit card used to purchase this class. The deposit will be forfeited if the items are returned after the deadline OR if the items are damaged.
